Chinese construction manufacturers were out in full force at the recent CONEXPO/CON-AGG 2017 in Las Vegas. Nearly 130 original equipment manufacturers and their supply Chinese supply chain component makers were represented – the most at any previous CONEXPO/CONAGG event. OEMs included XCMG, Sany, Zoomlion, Shantui, Sunward, LiuGong and SDLG. The off-highway equipment industry – which includes construction, mining, agriculture and forestry – generated $267 billion in direct sales in the US in 2016, and a further $95 billion in indirect sales from the supply chain, plus $55 billion in employee spending.

The world’s first 3D-printed excavator was unveiled in the new Tech Experience zone of CONEXPO-CON/AGG. Project AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator), led by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and involving multiple partners from industry, trade associations and academia, was instigated back in 2014 when visiting members of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) saw ORNL’s 3D-printed car.

Industry associations and manufacturers have reached an agreement on telematics data. A large group off heavy equipment manufacturers, fleet managers and two leading industry associations have agreed on unified communications for telematics.

The US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) has revealed data showing that exports of construction equipment dropped 25% in 2013 compared to the previous year. The exports of machines were worth some US$$20 billion in all. The data comes from the US Commerce Department and is being highlighted in the AEM’s trend reports. According to the information, all world regions recorded declines in imports of construction machines.
