What happens when a highways services employee is prosecuted for failing to follow established safety procedures? How would a courtroom drama unfold for the accused and the employer?

It can be a chilling scenario and one which visitors to this month’s 8269 Highways UK event at the NEC, Birmingham, will experience first-hand during a mock trial.

With a cast comprising actors as well as a working barrister and crown court judge, the court-room based drama will unfold to offer an immersive and eye-opening learning experience.

This bespoke theatrical presentation, created by duty of care experts Turner Kenworthy, was originally developed for M25 Tier 1 contractor Connect Plus Services. It was for use as a training tool across the business to illustrate the importance of safe decision making, correct briefing and following safe working practices. Connect Plus Services has kindly given its permission for this presentation to be shown live at Highways UK 2016.

This is just one of the many reasons that Highways UK is promising to be a major highlight in the transport sector calendar. The event is predominantly free with keynote addresses, an industry briefings programme over three theatres, and exhibition and exhibitor events open to all. These are complemented by a chargeable strategic conference and a supper function on the night of Wednesday, 16 November.
