The tender process is due to open shortly for a major road project in Norway at Alta in the north of the country and near to Tromso. Project Finmark involves building a new 7.6km stretch for the E45 Kløfta road and is worth €153.6 million (NOK 1.8 billion).
The tender process is being managed by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen). The most complex portion of the project will be the construction of a 4.2km tunnel. The work also involves building a 150m bridge spanning Eibyelva and 3.25km stretch of road.
According to Statens Vegvesen, the rebuilding of the E45 in the north of Norway is required to replace a section of the road that is prone to landslides. The road stretch is in a topographically difficult canyon with steep, unstable and landslide-prone mountainsides. Full financing was prioritised in the first period of Norway’s National Transport Plan for 2022-2033.
