A new highway costing up to US$15 billion is planned to connect Nigeria and Ivory Coast. The highway would link Nigeria’s economic centre, Lagos, with the capital of Ivory Coast, Abidjan.
The route will also pass through Benin, Togo and Ghana, connecting their respective capital, Porto Novo, Lome and Accra. Because of the importance of the project for the economic development of the region, this project has been approved by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS).
The 1,028km Lagos-Abidjan Corridor Highway Development Project will boost transport and trade for West Africa. The initiative is being managed jointly by five ECOWAS nations, Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire.
