Slovakia's transport ministry says the 7.5km Visnove tunnel near Zilina, part of the D1 motorway, will be delayed by two years to open in 2022.

The design-and-build contract worth about €410 million was assigned to the Salini Impregilo-led joint venture DUHA in 2014 by the National Highway Company
The highway runs past Lietavská Lúčka, Višňové and Dubná Skala in the Žilina region of northern Slovakia.
The tunnel is also part of Corridor 5 of the Trans-European Networks -TEN - which links Bratislava in Slovakia with Uzhhorod in Ukraine. It is financed by the Slovak government and the European Union through the European Investment Bank.
