Florida’s Gateway Expressway project is underway at present and is due for completion in the second quarter of 2024. This will be slightly later than the original completion date, which was intended in late 2023.

The project is being managed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Once the work is complete, two new toll road stretches will be opened and provide links between the Bayside Bridge, US19 and I-275. In addition, new express lanes will be added to I-275, which will boost capacity and reduce congestion at peak periods.

Construction work commenced in 2017 and is costing an estimated US$600 million. One of the toll road sections will be called SR690 and will be an elevated stretch running above 118th Avenue North, linking I-275 with US19. The other toll road section will be a raised highway linking with the Bayside Bridge.
