Highway widening work is being planned for Himachal Pradesh in North India. The work will see the road connecting Shimla and Mataur being widened so that it features two lanes in either direction.

The project is expected to cost US$1.12 billion. The work will be carried out in six separate stages. By road Shimla and Mataur are around 528km apart, with the journey taking around 8 hours. The improvement works now approved by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will help lower journey times for drivers, as well as boosting traffic safety.
