The Italian contractor Webuild, formerly known as Salini Impregilo, has been awarded part of a major highway project in Libya. The complete highway project is worth €963 million.

The 1,700km highway provides a new link across Libya between its neighbours, Tunisia and Egypt. The project forms the missing section in the North African highway, which connects Morocco with Egypt. The highway runs through Morocco in the west, Algeria, Tunisia and this latest stretch will be the final connection with Egypt in the east.

Construction of the highway includes building 12 bridges, as well as eight service areas and six car parks. Webuild is working on a 36 month project to construct the first phase of the project.
