The Moroccan Government opened the tender and is aiming to have the highway ready for traffic by 2020. The authorities are considering three possible options for the highway. Béni Mellal is two hours from Casablanca, Marrakesh and Fez and has industrial potential while its airport is being expanded. With regard to the by-pass east of Marrakesh, it forms part of a plan to develop road infrastructure around Morocco’s largest cities and would also improve access to the South-East of the country.
