Vietnam needs bridge and road improvements

A key need for infrastructure upgrades is required in Vietnam during 2012. Official estimates suggest that some US$499.4 million is required to repair roads and upgrade or replace bridge links in the country. The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam says that there are 277 ageing bridges which need repairs and the country’s Transport Ministry has been urged to prioritise the issue.

A key need for infrastructure upgrades is required in Vietnam during 2012. Official estimates suggest that some US$499.4 million is required to repair roads and upgrade or replace bridge links in the country. The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam says that there are 277 ageing bridges which need repairs and the country’s Transport Ministry has been urged to prioritise the issue. Agreements to fund the necessary infrastructure projects have been sealed between the 2332 World Bank and the State Bank of Vietnam. These project are the tenth Poverty Reduction Support Credit, the Medium Cities Development Project and the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway Project. The contracts are worth $973.5 million.
