The Government of Barcelona has announced it will introduce a new measure as part its air quality plan, which will see a discount of around 20 per cent for toll access fees in Barcelona.

Lluis Recoder, director of the Department for Planning and Sustainability, has announced that the plan will implemented from January, 2012, on routes C-16, C-33 and C-32 at the top of the Maresme district and the C-32 in the Garraf area. To qualify for the toll discount, carbon dioxide emission levels must be less than 108 grammes for diesel vehicles, and less than 120g for petrol powered cars. It is estimated that the initiative will affect about eight per cent of vehicles.
