Construction is underway on Nepal's new Kaligandaki highway, which will provide a key route running North-South through the country. To the north it will connect with China and to the south with India.

Work is being carried out on the 55km section of road from Kushma - Mirmi and this is due for completion in July, 2010. The 325km road will run along the Kaligandaki Tiver bank and the Nepalese Government says that the complete project should be completed in 10 years.

This highway will provide an important trade route between India and China, as well as being useful for developing tourism in Nepal and easing transport for religious pilgrims travelling to sites in the country such as Muktinath and Mansarovar.
