RSS3344 Telvent GIT has been awarded a contract by 5530 Almabani General Contractors to implement the Telvent SmartMobility Road Suite solution on the extension of the roads in Arriyadh Old Airport area. The project, lead by the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, will extend the existing north-south and east-west highways for more than 11 kms and the construction of three tunnels.

Telvent’s SmartMobility Road Suite, based on the company’s control and data acquisition system (OASyS SCADA), will allow centralisation of both tunnel infrastructure and traffic management providing operators with a set of effective tools to facilitate the process, while heightening safety and security at the same time. Fire detection control, CCTV surveillance, automatic incident detection, traffic data collection station, variable message panels, lighting, ventilation, and communications network will be implemented and integrated.

The solution will enable traffic operators to control traffic in real time and be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any emergency situation occurring within the infrastructure. This will lead to a substantial improvement in incident response times and more efficient management of maintenance plans, which, in turn, is expected to lead to a decrease in accidents rates and an increase in users' safety.

According to Telvent’s chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “The Middle East market is very important for Telvent. This new award highlights our active involvement in the Middle East traffic sector and helps Almabani and the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh towards reaching the commitment of improving safety and optimising urban mobility in the interests of creating a safer and more pleasant environment for citizens, thereby improving their quality of life.”

In recent years, the company has been awarded in Saudi Arabia several transportation management projects for over 50 million euros which have pointed the company as one of the major players in the ITS sector not only in the country but in the middle east region, where for example the company recently finalised successfully the Beirut city´s urban traffic management system. The company is currently developing the urban traffic management systems for Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah as well as the King Abdullah Road Traffic management system in Arriyadh.
