Vietnam’s expressway expansion programme is well underway and will see the country benefiting from vastly improved transport connections. The country has set out plans for developing the network during the 2021-2030 period. By 2030 the expressway network will extend for a total of 5,004km according to the plans.

By 2050 Vietnam’s expressway network will extend for a total of 9,014km, featuring 41 major routes. Of these expressways, 14 will be in Vietnam’s Northern region and will extend for a total of 2,305km.

Ho Chi Min City will feature two major expressways that will measure a total of 295km and will have from two to four lanes in either direction. Meanwhile, Hanoi will have three expressway routes that will extend for a  total of 425km.

The expressway expansion programme was approved by the Vietnamese Government in the third quarter of 2021.
