A number of major bridge projects in Chile are now delayed. Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has revealed that work on the Cau Cau Bridge to link Teja Island with the mainland city of Valdivia has been delayed. The link will not be complete until 2017. According to MOP, a number of other bridge projects have hit delays also. The Los Pelues Bridge will not be completed until 2020. Work on a bridge located parallel to the existing Pedro de Valdivia crossing has now been halted as the route lies in area protected by the National Monuments Council. Although a number of issues are affecting the project to construct the Chacao Bridge to connect with Chiloe Island, MOP says that solutions are being sought and the construction work should not be delayed excessively.
