LiuGong and ZF have agreed a partnership to develop a new generation of transmissions for use in wheeled loaders and graders. The new system will be developed from existing ZF designs but will be aimed at the needs of the Chinese market.

SANY has lifted the covers on its new articulated dumptruck, the SAT40, at bauma China 2014. Featuring a 24m3 capacity dumpbody with exhaust heating, the SAT40 has a payload of 39.5tonnes. Power comes from a Mercedes Benz diesel rated at 350kW and which meets the Tier 3 emissions requirements. The engine drives all six wheels through a ZF transmission with eight forward speeds and four ratios for reverse. ZF used Conexpo to reveal a production-ready version of its NMV pto gear drive system. Mounted between the engine and transmission of a vehicle, the NMV assembly allows an auxiliary mechanical drive to be engaged without having to the run the driveline through a transmission.

ZF has chosen a pair of radial hydraulic motors for use in its compact single-speed hydrostatic transmission, the 2HC85, which has been developed for compact wheeled loaders up to 100kW and 10.5tonnes operating weight. For high-torque start-up, the transmission sends oil to both motors and demands maximum stroke to travel from 0-16kph, before isolating one motor and then using 100% oil flow through the remaining motor to propel the machine to its maximum travel speed of 42kph. ZF used bauma 2013 to show the next stage of development for its cPower continuously variable transmission (CVT). By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.
