Chile’s landmark Chacao Bridge project now looks to be back on a sound footing, with completion expected in late 2022 or early 2023. This projects for the 2.6km-long bridge was to have been built jointly by Brazilian firm OAS and South Korean company Hyundai. However OAS hit financial difficulties and had to withdraw from the project. As a result, Hyundai will now buy the 49% stake OAS had in the project. The first Hyundai HX130LCR crawler excavator to arrive into Europe will be exhibited this April at ScotPlant 2018 in Edinburgh. Hyundai dealer Young Plant, based in Doune, Scotland, will have the compact-radius excavator HX130LCR on show for the duration of the event, from April 20-21. Also, on display at the Young Plant stand will be the 22tonne Hyundai HX220 L crawler excavator and the Hyundai HL960 HD wheeled loader, which has an operating weight of 19 tonnes.

The UK’s largest mechanical puppet, the 11m-tall Man Engine, will make a special appearance at this year’s Hillhead construction equipment exhibition. Construction work on Chile’s Chacao Bridge project is now underway. The 2.75km suspension bridge will connect the Chilean mainland with Chiloe Island. The bridge structure has been designed to flex so that It can cope with severe earthquakes, which present a risk in the area. Scottish hire business Jarvie Plant Group has sent all three of its recently purchased Hyundai 14tonne HX140 crawler excavators out on job sites. The machines went straight out on hire and are working on various civil engineering projects across Scotland. Construction is to commence on Chile’s key Chacao Bridge contract shortly. This comes after many delays over the years, including the previous cancellation of the project. The project will be handled under the PPP model and involves the construction of a bridge and highway connection that is expected to cost US$650 million. The work will be carried out in three phases. Hyundai Heavy Industries, in collaboration with the construction machinery manufacturers Italian dealer Hitex, recently supplied two machines for Earthquake clean-up duties in Italy. The machines - a R60CR-9A crawler excavator and a HL757-9A wheeled loader were handed over to the Il Corpo Nazionale dei Vigile del Fuoco for four-months at no cost.
