Bomag’s latest soil compactor offers high performance

Versatility and high performance are claimed for the BW 124-5 single drum roller from 172 Bomag. The machine competes in the 3-4tonne class and is said to offer high gradeability and off-road performance, as well as versatility for compaction due to its dual amplitude selection. New features include a revised operator platform with four-post ROPS and FOPS, as well as ergonomic controls for the optional dozer blades.

The machine is also available as an option with the Bomag Economizer compaction system, which measures compaction. Bomag has upgraded its compact single drum roller to meet the Stage IV/Tier 4 emissions requirements and to follow the new series design.

The BW 124-5 single drum roller is available with a smooth or padfoot drum and is ideal for a range of earthworks compaction applications. With its compact design and high manoeuvrability, the BW 124-5 also suits urban working.

The machine offers a choice of two amplitudes; 0.85mm or 1.7mm. This allows the machine’s compaction forces to be adapted to the application and soil type, delivering high-quality, cost-effective operation. With significantly larger surface coverage, compact single drum rollers offer a serious alternative to vibratory plates.

This is the only single drum model in this weight class, and the BW 124-5 features double pump drive and a limited slip differential axle. The high torque drive provides gradeability and off-road performance: this roller readily handles gradients of up to 55% or 29°. The 34kW Kubota drive meets Stage IV/Tier 4 emissions standards.

The optional dozer blade is available with up/down function (standard) and float position or with tilt function. This has extended the range of applications to include distribution, profiling and levelling; work commonplace in horticulture and landscaping.

In addition, users now benefit from the proven Bomag Economizer system on this model. An optional feature, the system provides optimal and intuitive control of compaction. The Economizer is a cost-effective method to measure soil compaction on Bomag single drum rollers. The operator knows how compaction has progressed by means of an illuminated strip; Economizer also alerts the operator to the risk of over-compaction.
