JCB lands the big one with A-Plant in the UK

JCB has secured one of its biggest deals in the UK – more than 1,200 machines and a range of generators worth more than €61 million. The order from equipment hire company A-Plant includes more than 600 Loadall telescopic handlers and more than 450 mini and midi excavators, as well as rough terrain forklift trucks, site dumpers, backhoe loaders and tracked excavators. In the past three years, A-Plant has ordered more than €156 million worth of equipment, including this order.
Tobroco boosts the specs on its Giant D337T X-TRA loader

Tobroco, a Dutch compact wheeled loader manufacturer, reports that its Giant D337 model is now available with higher specifications, the X-TRA version. The D337T X-TRA loader has a lower front frame making for a lower centre of gravity and an increased lifting capacity. The machine has a tipping load of 2,054kg in comparison with 1,450kg for the standard model. The new wheeled loader has a 24.6kW 3-cylinder Kubota diesel engine and comes with a hydraulic pump from Bosch Rexroth.
WOLFF packs upgrades into its new 6020 clear crane

Wolffkran International has replaced its WOLFF 6015 clear with the WOLFF 6020 clear, the Swiss crane manufacturer has announced. A major improvement over its predecessor is an increased tip load capacity. Two versions are available. The new flat-top saddle jib is now available as the 6tonne WOLFF 6020.6 clear and the 8tonne version WOLFF 6020.8 clear, with three different tower connections per version. Saudi Dolomite runs a processing plant in Abqaiq, which is located in the desert, 80km south-west of the capital of the eastern province of Saudi Arabia, Damman. Covering an area of 250,000m², the plant processes 5,000tonnes of material/day and runs its around-the-clock operation seven days/week.

According to Aggregate Industries, this material can speed up road surfacing by more than 40%. There is a major need to repave many UK roads, with the country’s vehicle population having increased by 10 million in the last 10 years. A division of Blastcrete Equipment, Neal Manufacturing has designed its DA 350 Dual Applicator so that it can be retrofitted onto any truck-powered sealcoating unit. Measuring paving thickness with MOBA’s technology

A new system from MOBA Mobile Automation allows for accurate measurements to be made of pavement thickness. Called PAVE-TM, the system can capture the installation thickness of any road layer during asphalt paving and uses contact-free measurement technology. Layer thickness is a key quality feature in asphalt paving and the PAVE-TM system can help improve process reliability by eliminating errors that occur with manual measurements and also allow savings on materials costs.
Tunnelling in Montenegro with XCMG equipment

Tunnelling equipment from Chinese firm XCMG has played an important role in a project in Montenegro. The work was carried out by contractor CCCC Tunnel Engineering Company and involved the excavation of the Jabuka Tunnel Works. This link forms part of the North-South Expressway of Montenegro and was completed on schedule recently. The link is of note as it is the first-ever expressway in Montenegro. Due to the country’s hills, a stretch of tunnel was a necessity.

TKH Security Solutions says that its Tunnelcam Ultimo lightweight camera is aimed at use in tunnel applications. The unit offers cross-sensor intelligence capabilities and it allows users to interchange thermal and optical views over a single IP address. The camera can be ordered with pre-configured settings, power supply options and several cabling options with fewer requirements for switch ports and cables.

A new mobile power system offers independent electricity and compressed air supply for construction sites. The power package has been developed by Swiss firm Premel and comes enclosed in a standard container, fitted with a generator and a compressor from Atlas Copco. Typical applications for the mobile power stations include tunnel construction sites. For use in operations with a risk of explosions, the system can also be equipped with a spark arrestor.
Underground stability with new shotcrete technology

Blastcrete Equipment Company says that its novel Mine Mate machine can be used to mix and pump concrete for use in tunnel sealing and stabilisation, grouting and other shotcrete applications. The Mine Mate unit is said to boost safety in tunnelling and suits duties where and when ready-mix concrete is not an option. Emergency services in the US state of Oregon recently faced a rather unusual challenge when they were called out to deal with the aftermath of a crash. A truck had overturned, spilling its load into the roadway and onto a number of other vehicles. Unfortunately the truck’s load happened to comprise several tonnes of live hagfish, which were being transported to Korea, where they are eaten as a delicacy.

A driver in the UK provided a great source of entertainment to drinkers in a pub recently. The man was towing a caravan through a narrow gap between two buildings with his SUV when he realised that the caravan was slightly too wide. Frustrated, he hit the accelerator and spun the wheels of his vehicle, succeeding only in wedging the caravan more tightly in the space, as well as breaking off a drainpipe.

Drivers in Hungary using the new R 67 expressway link will benefit from an unusual design feature of the road once the work is complete. Those driving at a certain speed will be able to hear the melody to the song, Route 67, by local rock band Republic. This effect will be achieved due to grooves cut into the road surface, which will generate harmonic frequencies in the tyres of vehicles driving within a certain speed range when using the link.
