Balfour Beatty has won the tender process for a US$203 million highway contract in North Carolina. The work is to upgrade an 8km section of US Route 70 in the east of the state and Balfour Beatty will carry out the work under a design and build contract. Construction is expected to commence in 2021, with the work due for completion in 2023. Upgrading the route will improve transport to and from the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport and James City as well as various military facilities in the area. The deal was awarded by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and is important as Route 70 is the key east-west transport route for this part of the state.
