Completion of Paraguay’s Heroes del Chaco bridge project is due shortly. Construction work on the bridge should be finished by July 2023.

When complete, the cable-stayed bridge will provide a more direct connection between Paraguay’s capital Asunción and the town of Chaco'I, carrying an expected 10,000 vehicles/day. The opening of the bridge will help to reduce congestion on an existing bridge that lies around 8km to the north.

The 450m bridge was expected to cost $115 million originally but will now cost considerably more. There were a number of issues with the project, including the design, which led to an investigation being carried out. The bridge is being built by the Union Consortium, which is comprised of the contractors CDD Construcciones and Constructora Heisecke, with much of the funding also being supplied by the IADB.

This new bridge is a key infrastructure project for Paraguay, improving road connections with Argentina and Brazil, linking Puerto Falcón to the Botanical Road Corridor, Ñu Guasu Highway, Luque – San Bernardino Route and Route 2.
