A consortium consisting of Heilit+Woerner (a subsidiary of Austrian company 945 Strabag) and 3302 Budimex, has signed the contract to build a section of the S5 expressway between Poznań and Wrocław, Poland, with a gross value of about €138 million.

Heilit+Woerner holds a 50% stake in the consortium, and its share in the gross value amounts to about €69 million.
Work on the expressway for the client, the General Director for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) is to begin in the next few weeks and is expected to last 30 months (winter breaks not included) with completion and commissioning of the new section scheduled for 2017. It will reduce the travel time from Poznań to Wrocław by 30 minutes.

The entire new section of the S5 north of Wrocław from Korzeńsko to Widawa is some 48km long, and the contract foresees the planning and construction of the first 15km-long section from Korzeńsko that will include the construction of two interchanges at Żmigródek and Żmigród as well as access roads. The route consists of two lanes of traffic in each direction, but the width of the median strip allows for the addition of a third lane to cater for future increased traffic volume.

Under the project, the consortium will build 14 bridge structures, technical infrastructure facilities such as rain channels, gas lines and illumination as well as road passages and two rest stations. At the same time, it will also be necessary to upgrade the existing drainage network and ditches.
